Câu hỏi & bài mẫu Band 9

What types of sports are most popular in your country?
Bài mẫu Band 9

Well, football is far and away the biggest one — it's practically a national obsession, and whenever there's a major match you'll find whole streets packed with people glued to a screen. Beyond that, I'd say more low-key activities like badminton and jogging have really taken off, largely because they're cheap and you can do them just about anywhere. What strikes me is how the pattern splits by age: older folks tend to gravitate towards gentle morning exercise in the parks, whereas younger people are increasingly drawn to gym culture and things like running clubs. So it's quite a mixed picture, really.

Do you think it is more rewarding to take part in sports competitions or to watch them on TV? Why?
Bài mẫu Band 9

Honestly, for me there's no contest — actually taking part is infinitely more rewarding than being a spectator. When you're out there competing, you feel that adrenaline first-hand, and there's a real sense of accomplishment that simply watching can never quite replicate. I remember running my first ten-kilometre race last year, and crossing that finish line gave me a buzz that stayed with me for days — no televised match has ever come close to that. That said, I can see the appeal of watching for people who just want to unwind, but to my mind it's a far more passive kind of pleasure.

Why is it considered important for children to take part in competitive sports?
Bài mẫu Band 9

I'd say the main reason is that competition teaches kids invaluable life lessons that you simply can't get from a textbook. Learning to win graciously and, more importantly, to lose without falling apart builds a kind of resilience that serves them well right through adulthood. Take my younger cousin, for instance — she was a terribly sore loser as a child, but a few seasons of school volleyball completely turned that around and taught her to bounce back from setbacks. On top of that, it instils teamwork and discipline, so the benefits really do go far beyond just keeping fit.

Do you think schools should place more emphasis on sports? Why or why not?
Bài mẫu Band 9

Absolutely — I'm firmly of the view that schools ought to give sport far more weight than they currently do. There's a growing tendency to pile everything onto academics, and physical activity ends up being treated as an afterthought, which I think is a real shame given how much it benefits both body and mind. A bit of daily exercise genuinely sharpens concentration and lifts kids' mood, so it's not as if it comes at the expense of their studies — if anything, it complements them. That said, I wouldn't want it taken to the extreme where sport eclipses everything else; it's really about striking a sensible balance.
